Strategic Development Planning Authority Designated

The order of the Scottish Ministers designating Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire as a Strategic Development Planning Authority (SDPA) came into force today. The new authority will be required to prepare and keep under review a strategic development plan.

The SDPA is one of four in Scotland covering the city regions around the four largest cities - Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The Aberdeen City and Shire SDPA will take over the strategic land-use planning role currently performed by the Aberdeen City and Shire Strategic Planning Committee.

One of the first tasks of the SDPA will be to propose boundaries for the strategic development plan area. Consultation on this will commence soon, with the SDPA required to make a submission to Scottish Ministers by 25 September 2008.
