Strategic Development Plan examination report welcomed

Aberdeen City and Shire Strategic Development Planning Authority has welcomed the publication of a Scottish Government report of the examination of the region's Strategic Development Plan.

The Scottish Government’s Directorate for Planning and Environmental Appeals (DPEA) has today concluded its examination of the Proposed Aberdeen City and Shire Strategic Development Plan. The report has now been submitted to Scottish Ministers for final consideration.

Summary of recommendations by issue

SDPA chairman, Councillor Ramsay Milne said: "We broadly welcome the publication of the report, which appears to be generally very supportive.

“Once the Scottish Ministers have considered the report we will be in a position to bring this important blueprint into operation. The last Structure Plan was very successful and this follows on from it. There is a need for long-term planning and this plan will set an important framework for the Local Development Plans being prepared by the two councils".

Vice-chair, Councillor Peter Argyle added: “I am pleased that we have reached this significant stage for this very important document. The preparation of the Plan has involved a lot of detailed work and consultation. I would like to pay a particular thanks to the many individuals, organisations and communities who have contributed to it at the various stages."

The Proposed Plan was submitted to the DPEA in July 2013. In the months that followed two Reporters were tasked with considering the 17 issues arising from the 247 unresolved representations made to the Proposed Plan. The examination did not lead to any inquiry or hearing sessions, although a small number of further information requests were made.

The Reporters have made a small number of recommendations for changes to the plan and these will now be considered by Scottish Ministers prior to their approval of the plan.

It is anticipated that Scottish Ministers will approve the plan in late March 2014.
