SDPA Adopt Strategic Transport Fund Supplementary Guidance

The Aberdeen City and Shire Strategic Development Planning Authority (SDPA) met this afternoon and agreed to adopt statutory Supplementary Guidance in relation to the Strategic Transport Fund.

Consultation took place in late 2014/ early 2015 on draft guidance and changes were agreed by the SDPA at its last meeting in April in light of those responses. The policy has been operating on the basis of non-statutory Supplementary Planning Guidance since 2012 and has already secured contributions of over £20m towards essential transport infrastructure required to accommodate the traffic generated by new development.

The Supplementary Guidance requires contributions to a range of strategic transport infrastructure projects in and around Aberdeen from new development within Aberdeen City and those parts of Aberdeenshire closest to the City identified for strategic growth (corridors to Ellon, Inverurie and Stonehaven). The need for the contributions mechanism is set out in the approved Aberdeen City and Shire Strategic Development Plan (2014).

The SDPA received notification earlier this month from Scottish Ministers that it could proceed to adopt the guidance.

The adopted guidance has now been referred to both councils for ratification in August and the guidance is expected to come into force on 28 August 2015. In the meantime, the non-statutory guidance will remain in force.

The papers for the SDPA meeting are available here (SDPA Agenda Pack - 25 June 2015). The final version of the Supplementary Guidance will be published over the next few weeks, prior to the guidance coming into force.
