Opening of new Inveramsay Bridge welcomed

A new bridge, taking the A96 trunk road over the Aberdeen-Inverness railway line has opened today after a £10m investment by Transport Scotland.

The new bridge will reduce congestion and improve journey time reliability as well as remove the risk of bridge strikes and the consequent disruption to both road and rail journeys.

The project has been a key proposal of the Aberdeen City and Shire Strategic Development Plan and the Nestrans Regional Transport Strategy for a number of years - removing a key restriction on the trunk road network.

Prior to the new bridge, the previous bridge carried the Aberdeen to Inverness railway line over the A96 Trunk Road. The masonry arch structure had a 4.4m height restriction and traffic under the structure was restricted to a single lane controlled by traffic signals.
