SDPA elect new chair and vice-chair

The Aberdeen City and Shire Strategic Development Planning Authority met on 30 June and elected a new Chair and Vice Chair following the local government elections in May.

The SDPA unanimously elected Cllr Marie Boulton as Chair and Cllr John Cox as Vice Chair. Councillor Boulton represents the Lower Deeside Ward on Aberdeen City Council, while Councillor Cox represents the Banff and District Ward on Aberdeenshire Council.

A number of returning Councillors were welcomed back - Councillors David Aitchison, John Cox, Ross Grant, Brain Topping and Ian Yuill. New Councillors were also welcomed, Councillors Marie Boulton, John Cooke, Gordon Graham, Brett Hunt, Paul Johnston, John Latham and Sandy Wallace (Cllrs Boulton and Graham having served as either substantive or substitute members in the past).

Full details of the current SDPA Membership are available on the website, while substitute members are set out below.

Current substitute members are

Aberdeen City Council: Councillors P Bell, N Copland, B Comrie, S Macdonald, T Mason and J Reynolds

Aberdeenshire Council: Councillors C Buchan, A Forsyth, S Leslie, D Lonchay, I Mollison and G Reid

The meeting also considered the 2017 Housing Land Audit and the SDPA's Planning Performance Report for 2016/17. The Audit identified land for approximately 46,000 new homes across Aberdeen City and Shire, with land for over 36,000 units on unconstrained sites (29,000 in the Aberdeen Housing Market Area and 7,000 in the Rural Housing Market Area). The Planning Performance Report highlighted the up-to-date nature of the strategic and local development plans across the area and the generous supply of housing and employment land provided for within the plans.

The day before the meeting the Scottish Government had published a 'Position Statement' on planning reform following consultation on 'Places, People and Planning' earlier in the year. The SDPA agreed to delegate responding to the current consultation to officers in consultation with the chair and vice chair given the closing date of 11 August 2017.
